The producer is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its award-winning blue cheese, which has won accolades from the World Cheese Awards, a gold Great Taste Award, and the title of Champion Blue Cheese at the Nantwich International Cheese Awards.

Most recently, Shepherds Purse has won multiple accreditations at the British Cheese Awards, including gold in the Feta Style Cheese category for Yorkshire Fettle, and various medals in the Blue Cheese category: gold for Harrogate Blue, silver for Monks Folly and Mrs. Bell’s Blue, and bronze for Yorkshire Blue.

Caroline Bell, director at Shepherds Purse said, “It’s an honour to be recognised in prestigious awards such as the British Cheese Awards and have so many of our products named as medal winners – particularly in this, our 25th anniversary year.”

Of the French-inspired renaming of Yorkshire Blue she said, “We wanted to do something to both promote one of our hero products and also recognise the compliment paid to us by the French guests we met last year. The guests confessed to us that they had a pre-conceived idea of British cheese as hard, like Cheddar or Stilton, and that they were ‘blown away’ by our continental-style cheeses.

“We felt like this would be something fun to do to raise awareness of Yorkshire Blue and celebrate the great sporting event taking place in our region this summer. We came up with the concept as a collaborative effort with our design partners, Robot Food.”

Simon Foster, creative director at Robot Food said, “Le Tour coming to Yorkshire is a great opportunity for local brands. As two passionate Yorkshire based companies, we couldn’t resist working on a limited edition cheese in collaboration with Shepherd’s Purse.

“Yorkshire Blue is a flagship product, so was crying out for the ‘proud’ cow to become a ‘leading’ cow. She’s trimmed down to sport the famous yellow jersey and we added graffiti to the pack, adding a beret and moustache, along with the new title ‘Le Yorkshire Bleu’.”
