The chocolate will be made using cocoa beans from Ghana and Equador, which Mackie’s will then refine and conch using artisan methods. The company is working together with MacIntyre, a chocolate manufacturing equipment producer in Arbroath.
Kirstin Mackie, development director at Mackie’s of Scotland, said, “The results were very encouraging with a high preference for Mackie’s new chocolate recipe and others finding it hard to choose between Mackie’s and their favourite. With this first trial we will now be able to fine tune the recipe and aim to bring Mackie’s chocolate bars to the UK market later this year. We also have good interest from our export partners.”
The range will be announced later this year, with milk and dark chocolate varieties already confirmed, as well as the chocolate being incorporated into Mackie’s existing range of ice creams.
