Thousands of people voted for their favourite deli to be crowned Deli of the Year 2010 and in 2011, the judging panel of independent food experts will once again, begin its search for the deli that stands out from the crowd.
Giles Henschel, founder of Olives Et Al explains why delis should take part again this year. “Any delis that applied last year should definitely apply again – the judges had a huge task deciding between the entries as there were so many strong delis and farm shops to choose from. The things that made some stand out were menus, photos, customer comments and plans for activities throughout the year – this showed the judges that the nominated delis were really doing everything they could do build and maintain strong businesses.
“The judges looked at every detail – one deli sent in appreciative letters they had received from customers, another one sent in a scrap book filled with a year of deli activity and promotions. So, yes, they should reapply – the winner from last year will not be allowed to enter but will be invited to be part of the judging panel - and this is something we have included in the Terms & Conditions for this year – the field is wide open,” continues Giles.
