£1000 Bursary Available To Food Entrepreneurs

18 April 2011, 17:21 PM
  • It's the last chance for young people to apply for a lucrative bursary, worth £1000, to start up or develop their own food business

The money is available to foodies between the ages of 16 and 25, and can be put to use across all sectors of the food industry, from retail and hospitality to farming and production.

The Graeme Kidd Memorial Bursary, set up in conjunction with the Ludlow Food Festival, will be awarded to individuals who live within a 30 mile radius of Ludlow, and who would not otherwise be able to move forward in their career.

The scheme could be of particular use to delis and farm shops looking to encourage and develop younger members of staff. Last year’s winner was Sam Bruce of Scrummy Bites, a company specialising in homemade cakes, quiches and tea breads. Since winning the bursary Mr Bruce has launched the new Garden Tea Room in Kingsland and started to supply local shops with his products.

Each applicant should fill in an application form, which consists of no more than 1,000 words, explaining their needs, and the likely outcomes in terms of opportunities gained, personal experience and career development.

The deadline for applications is 27th April, and the winner will be announced at the Ludlow Spring Festival, held on 7th and 8th May.
