Cornish Clotted Cream PDO Battle

Trewithen Dairy has applied to change the PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) specification to include clotted cream produced as a bulk ingredient for manufacturers, in which the recognisable yellow crust is dispersed throughout the product instead of forming a distinct layer above the cream.

Rodda’s are fighting this amendment, saying that the yellow crust is an iconic feature of the product and the value of its popularity with consumers should not be ignored. Nicholas Rodda, MD is in discussions with George Eustice, farming minister for DEFRA and MP for Camborne and Redruth, in order to fight this adaptation of the specification.

Those wanting to object or comment must show an interest by 13th January, and comments must be made by 10 March.
