Fine food distributor RH Amar is celebrating its 75th anniversary with the launch of a £75,000 charity draw. Customers and brand partners are invited to enter by nominating a UK-registered charity by the end of October.

RH Amar supplies more than 30 fine food brands to major supermarkets, wholesale groups, restaurants and independent retailers, and since 2013, the company has committed 10% of its profits to charities each year. To date, more than £1.2m has been donated to around 70 charities, including GroceryAid, Farm Africa and MacMillan Cancer Support.

The High Wycombe-based company has also supported local Buckinghamshire charities and sought to help out during the coronavirus pandemic but donating fine food parcels to NHS workers in the county. “Supporting charities, our local community and those less fortunate than us is at the heart of who we are,” explained RH Amar managing director Rob Amar. “For our 75th anniversary, we wanted to do something extra in addition to the 10% of profits we already give to charity each year. We decided to do it in a way that (hopefully) engages many of our customers and brand partners.”

Five prizes will be available through the charity draw, ranging from £5,000 to £50,000. The winners will be announced on Friday 13th November on the company’s social media channels.

“As fundraising opportunities for many charities have been restricted during 2020, we think the donations will be even more valuable for whichever charities they go to,” continued Rob. “I would like to see all businesses, not just in our industry, contribute a proportion of profits to charity. Businesses large and small can be a force for good and help drive change. Aside from the help it gives the good causes, it is a great way to engage customers, and especially colleagues.”

RH Amar chairman Henry Amar, who will conduct the anniversary draw with son Rob, said: “2020 is our 75th anniversary year and, whilst it hasn’t felt like the right time to celebrate, it most definitely is the right time to live up to the values we have held since 1945.”
