There is always a new amazing cheese being made in the UK. The cheese industry is forever evolving.
In the UK, unlike in other countries, British artisan cheese is profoundly connected to the land, farm animals and people involved in making it. The cheesemakers are the superstars of the cheese industry. The fine cheese industry has a rich heritage and community but also leaves room for amazing new artisan cheesemakers that have learnt this beautiful craft from many before them.
A cheese shop like mine aims to hand-select the highest quality cheeses and share them so that others can experience and savour the world’s finest benchmark cheeses. We use our platform to show as many people as we can how amazing these cheeses are! We would love everyone to love cheese as much as we do.
I started in cheese at 18 and watched my peers get excited about cheese, and I quickly learned that life is enhanced by the flavour, aroma and texture of beautiful, well-made cheeses. Cheesemakers have shared their knowledge, advice and endless discoveries with me along the way.
The UK farmhouse cheese industry has faced its biggest challenges in recent years, with the Covid-19 pandemic forcing many small cheesemakers out of business. It is more important than ever to keep this beautiful industry alive. Seeing more and more people learning about cheese and training to be cheesemongers is amazing.
I am so excited to see how the industry will continue to thrive for many years to come.
