Former town centre policeman, Nigel Treloar, is swapping the beat for meat to run the shop, after retiring as Helston town centre’s neighbourhood beat manager in September last year. It is hoped that busy staff will be able to pop in on their way home and easily pick up fresh produce for their evening meal - although the shop will be open to everyone. People will be able to place an order on the internet and then pick it up when passing.
Alongside the meat, teas, coffees and hot chocolate will sold, alongside yoghurts from Gwavas Farm at Ruan Minor and ice cream from Callestick Farm near Truro, for a quick “pick me up” for staff. The company supplies the hospital with local meat for patients’ meals and so when the hospital trust decided to make use of the building in the car park it was the Scorse family they turned to.
Jeremy Lovelock, one of the directors at the company, said, “We decided to take the challenge. We are proud to be associated with the project and will give it a good shot.”
It will be the first time that the family has opened a business outside of Helston. The shop at Treliske will be officially launched at 12.30pm on Tuesday, 7th April. It will then be open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 12.30pm and 6.30pm.
