Uk’s Most Dangerous Supper Club Launches

23 May 2011, 13:51 PM
  • A London supper club will be selling fugu – one of the world's most poisonous marine animals – to adventurous customers next month

The Fugu Supper Club is the first dining experience to serve the notorious fish in the UK. Fugu is the Japanese name for pufferfish and the delicacy is one of the most celebrated dishes in the country’s cuisine.

The torafugu, or tiger blowfish, is considered to be the most delicious variety of edible pufferfish – however is also the most toxic. One of the most expensive foods in the world, fugu is not permitted for sale in the EU. However the Fugu Supper Club is able to bring small amounts into the country for personal consumption at private dinner parties.

Prospective diners are asked to register their interest through the company’s website, and are then told the time and location of the sitting via email. In true ‘pop-up’ style, diners are invited to various locations, ranging from a grand central London mansion to an unoccupied gallery space. Here they join other gastro thrill-seekers for a Champagne reception before taking their seats to a six-course, omakase fugu feast that has been prepared by experienced chefs.
