The recipes for the biscuits have been decided by Riverside’s Veterans themselves with expert guidance from Rosemary, who will be launching her new baking book in 2013.
Ms Shrager said, “This biscuit has taken 18 months in development with Cause UK. We really want people to dunk and donate, I cannot think of a better way of raising money for charity than eating biscuits and drinking a good cup of tea.
“I had an instinctive connection with Cause UK, Riverside and the bakery, and its work and how baking can work on a therapeutic level. I have always supported charities that help address mental health issues and I whole-heartedly believe the work the bakery does with veterans who are damaged, physically, mentally or emotionally, can help transform vulnerable lives. I’m a great believer in offering fresh starts for people, I’ve been rock bottom myself and I know how baking has literally transformed my own life.”
Trevor Morris, an ex-serviceman and area manager of the Veterans’ Artisan Bakery, added, “The bakery provides training to equip those suffering from post-traumatic stress or vulnerable to homelessness with new career skills and insight into running a business. Baking also offers a therapeutic aspect, which Rosemary has been incredibly supportive of; we’re delighted by her support.”
