The Soil Association states that 15 per cent of its members farm both organically and conventionally, and that the organic sector was worth £1.64billion in 2012, a decrease of 1.5 per cent from the previous year.
Up until now organic farmers have been allowed to farm conventionally if they can prove that it makes their business financially viable.
