The original aim of the organisation was to achieve EU protected-name status for the Cornish pasty, which happened in 2011. Now, it ensures the production standards are upheld and helps retailers to find Cornish pasty suppliers.
Membership is open to anyone producing genuine Cornish pasties commercially, and Ms Ead is eager to hear from and engage with smaller, independent producers.
Ms Ead said, “I am honoured to have been given this role and would like to spend some time reassuring pasty producers, particularly the smaller bakers, of the massive advantages that protected status brings with it. I’d like to get more businesses actively involved in the running of the association too and would like everyone to feel that I am approachable.
“The Cornish pasty has the same protection now as Champagne, and I’d love to think that every pasty producer is as proud of protecting the quality and integrity of their product as every Champagne producer is of theirs.”
