Around 20,000 people attended last year’s show, with 429 awards given out across 171 cheese classes by 70 judges.
Nigel Pooley, chairman of the awards, said, “Our awards provide cheesemakers of any size with a platform to go head-to-head with competitors from across the globe, confident that the results are based solely on quality. This is evident by the enquiries we are already receiving, not only from individual producers but dairy cooperatives and representational bodies from Europe, Australia, America and even India. This not only underlines the reputation of the awards but is also proof that winning on a global stage is, quite simply, good for business.”
Mary Quicke, of Quickes Traditional, added, “It’s great to have our cheese judged by some of the most knowledgeable judges around. It’s also good to see how Cheddars stack up against other cheeses from around the world – winning at Frome matters to our customers, and is great for us!”
As well as the judging, there will be an in-depth seminar about the challenges and opportunities facing the global dairy industry over the next few years. UKTI and Red Tractor have already confirmed participation.
