The family run business is dedicated to selling fresh, local produce.
“We have signs saying how far our fruit and veg has travelled. Our customers take a real interest in provenance, so it’s a great way of boosting sales,” he said.
The new shop is located eight miles from the original store, taking the place of a failed deli.
“Building up a new customer base is undoubtedly a slow process, but hopefully we’ll be able to repeat the thriving sales of the first shop,” said Mr Caldwell.
“Becoming part of the local community will be crucial,” he added.
To build up customer loyalty the shop is introducing new schemes.
“Many customers have allotments and vegetable patches, so we’ve started a barter scheme whereby they can exchange their excess produce for store vouchers,” he said.
“We also hold regular food evenings, where we cook meals for customers using only local, seasonal produce,” said Mr Caldwell.
The new opening was celebrated with a day of apple bobbing and cider tasting, to coincide with British Apple Day at the end of October.
Ambitious plans now include opening up a restaurant.
