Prime Minister David Cameron made an appearance, and stated that the countryside ought to be celebrated more and that it would be the way forward for food security.
It was organised by six Cumbrian MPs to raise Cumbria’s profile, increase tourism and spread awareness of businesses from the area.
Maria Whitehead, of Hawkshead Relish, said, “This was a fantastic opportunity to not only champion our award-winning range, but discuss with the decision makers the obstacles that need to be removed to allow our regional produce to have a positive impact on the rural and national economy.”
Maurice Walton, owner of Appleby Creamery, added, “We were very pleased to be asked to accompany a selection of the best Cumbrian food producers down to Westminster. It was a great opportunity to put Cumbria firmly on the map as a quality food producing area and the day was a total success. It was an immensely busy but enjoyable affair and the feedback from visitors, MP’s, lords and ladies alike was very positive – they all seemed to enjoy the ‘Cumbrian crack’ as much as the delicious food that was on offer.”
