Own-brand supermarket convenience foods are rising in popularity for consumers’ everyday diet, and ‘luxury’ lines of ready meals are becoming increasingly desirable as consumers are choosing to treat themselves to an indulgent meal at home rather than go out for a meal in a restaurant.
Experts advise that food prices will continue to rise by an average of 4 per cent until at least 2022, almost twice the rate of inflation (2.7 per cent).
As the seventh most wealthy country in the world, people may be surprised that Britons are often unable to feed themselves enough, let alone feed themselves well, but research is showing that before long an annual salary of £50,000 that previously would have been more than enough to feed a family of four will no longer be sufficient.
