Yorkshire and Humber is home to more than 1,100 food and drink businesses, with a combined turnover in excess of £8 billion. The Awards received 268 entries, judged by 25 industry experts.
“It’s very encouraging in the current climate to see that more than half of the shortlisted companies are less than two years old,” said Jonathan Knight, Chief Executive of Deliciouslyorkshire.
“With more consumers saying they want to buy local and know where their food comes from, regional food is certainly on the rise,” he added.
The award is expected to boost business by helping Roots stand out from nearby competition.
Despite opening in the middle of a recession, Mr Hutchinson is therefore optimistic about the shop’s future.
BBC Radio 2’s resident foodie, Nigel Barden, hosted the event.
The shop is also in the running for several awards at the Flavours of Hambleton show this Thursday.
