  • After months of judging, the winner of the Best New Cheese Retailer was announced at the British Cheese Awards held in Cardiff last week

The crème de la crème was revealed as No.2 Pound Street situated in Wendover, Buckinghamshire. The shop was opened by Nicola Grant, her husband James and their friend Neil Irvine in August 2010.

The shop aims to celebrate the best in British cheese by stocking its nearest local cheeses from Hertfordshire.

No.2 Pound Street also has a high ratio of award winning cheeses on its shelves. “UK chefs are fantastic” says James, “making the best of local products in their own recipes. These are exciting times in Britain and we reflect that here.” The store’s range includes Cropwell Bishop Blue Stilton, Wobbly Bottom Soft Goat’s Cheese and Gorwydd Caerphilly.

To keep up with changing shopping habits, the store is open from 10am to 11pm, and the extended hours mean that the store attracts a wider network of customers.
