Alimentaria international trade show pushed back to May 2021

Alimentaria, Spain’s foremost international food, drink and food service trade show, has been pushed back to 2021 in response to requests from the industry’s leading companies and associations amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The organisation behind the show, Fira de Barcelona agreed with the industry to move the event to 17th-29th May 2021 in order to ensure the greatest possible participation. Previously, Alimentaria together with the HOSTELCO show brought more than 4,500 companies and 150,000 professionals to Barcelona, a quarter of which were international visitors.

“We have chosen the new dates after assessing the situation in depth and listening to the sector, whom we thank for their support, in order to guarantee the best development of such a relevant event at national and international level, and thus contribute to the reactivation of a key industry for the country’s economy,” says Fira de Barcelona CEO Constantí Serrallonga. The event is estimated to bring in €900m to the local economy.

Josep Lluís Bonet, the president of Alimentaria, adds: “Our common objective is, as always, to be a great tool for the industry, its projection and to achieve the best possible edition and participation.”

Alimentaria 2021, which will be held at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue, will celebrate innovation and gastronomy as its benchmark values. The event will continue to include shows on meat products, dairy, canned food, confectionery and snacks, Mediterranean diet, fresh products, olive oils and vegetables and more, as well as the latest industry trends, such as delicatessen, organic and functional foods.

Fira de Barcelona will continue to monitor the evolution of the pandemic, and if necessary it will apply the anti-Covid protocol that it has drawn up in collaboration with the specialist risk management consultancy Aon and the epidemiological advice of the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona. This will ensure it can offer maximum safety guarantees for workers, organisers, exhibitors, visitors and suppliers. For more information, visit alimentaria.com/en/.
