Packaging Goes Green

Recognising the need to provide environmentally friendly packing solutions, Hydropac, supplier of insulated shipping systems and products has been innovating again with the development of its new “Ecoshipper”.

Using 100% biodegradable starch as the basis for its insulation, it has been specifically tailored for the shipment of luxury foodstuffs and offers greater levels of insulation than polystyrene. Best of all, it is biodegradable, fully compostable and manufactured from sustainable raw materials.

Mike Collins, managing director of Hydropac, states, “We have even reduced environmental impact in the conversion of this product, having sheet sizes specifically manufactured and converted to prevent wastage.”

The end customer is able to dispose of the starch insulation in several ways; either on their own compost heap, or simply into domestic waste as the starch sheet will dissolve in a matter of days once at landfill. Mr Collins concludes, “This is a tremendous development for Hydropac, we are incredibly excited to be able to offer such an environmentally friendly product into the fine food market place, and have had customers crying out for this type of development for several years.”
