UK Consumers Say No To Fake Sweets

A Europe-wide survey conducted by Innofact AG on behalf of GNT Group has found that confectionery containing artificial ingredients is avoided by 27 per cent of UK consumers, while 37 per cent of consumers from other European countries choose non-artificial options over the alternatives.

91 per cent of consumers across Europe state that they do not accept artificial colourings in food, and the majority claimed that they would be willing to pay more for additive-free options – a larger number than would be willing to pay more for an organic or Fairtrade label.

Paul Collins, managing director of GNT UK said, “Less than 17% of British consumers approve such an ingredient. The majority, instead, believe food and drink should only be coloured with other foods, such as fruit and vegetable concentrates. With colouring foods, manufacturers can fulfil consumer demands and offer vibrant confectionery coloured in a completely natural way, providing a natural choice for every season.”
