Not only will the shop be decorated with an abundance of purple - balloons, ribbons and banners to celebrate seven days of loving great food - but it will also boast a colourful menu bursting with as many purple foods and drinks that you can think of (and there’s plenty because staff have created a weird and wonderful list - beetroot, purple potatoes, purple sprouting broccoli, aubergines, purple carrots, and olives, to name a few…)
Purple Love Week is Britain’s largest co-ordinated tasting event with the aim of encouraging shoppers to go into their favourite coffee shops, delis, restaurants, farm shops, butchers and bakers to enjoy the huge range of speciality food that is available in their area, all year round.
The event has been organised by food producer Olives Et Al and Speciality Food Magazine in a bid to support and unite smaller independent food shops everywhere.
And, in their own vibrant purple haze, staff at Thyme Deli are gearing to make their own declaration of independence in a very purple way!
Purple smoothies, purple soup, purple sandwich specials, purple pasta, purple cakes and even purple tea will be on the menu, and staff will be swapping their black uniform for bright purple for the all important and fun week. Not only that, but the staff will kick start the week with the boldest and brightest purple fancy dress costumes.
Nicola Heyes, manager of Thyme Deli and Coffee Shop said, “This is the second year running we’ve entered into the spirit of Purple Love Week - but this year we are determined to have sheer purple power.
“Customers will have the chance to taste our purple menu, sample some of our purple products - and we’ve even devised a purple loyalty card so that every time customers purchase something ‘purple’ they will be rewarded with a complimentary drink.
She continues, “We’ve created a weird and wonderful purple-themed menu - it’s incredible how many purple foods are out there - and all of this just adds to the fun. This year we’re going one step further and doing purple fancy dress - the costumes are top secret, to be revealed soon. This fun event really does serve to highlight the serious issue of how we can keep our high streets buzzing and we’re really excited to be taking part in Purple Love Week 2008.”
