  • The demands of running a small business means many owners have to put family life second, a new survey reveals.

Four hundred owners took part in this study carried out by accounting software company, KashFlow. The results showed 32% believed family time was the biggest sacrifice they had to make to ensure the success of their business. The survey is proof of the difficulties in finding a good life/work balance when running a small company.

Duane Jackson, managing director at KashFlow, says, “The research was commissioned to help us gain a better understanding of the personal sacrifices small businesses are undertaking to ensure success. The findings have provided a valuable insight into what measures can be taken in order to assist small businesses with their struggles.”

The research also showed that 18% of small business owners thought their disposable income was decreasing. Eight percent said that they haven’t had a holiday for years and five percent believed they had less of a social life since starting their company.
