TV chef Rachel Green made an appearance on the Friday before the festival, treating customers to an afternoon cooking demonstration and Q and A session.
“We were all delighted with the turnout. Last year was extremely busy, but this year we attracted more people that ever. Having Rachel get involved on the eve of the festival really helped get us noticed,” says Louise Lee at Gonalston Farm Shop. “Holding the festival is a great way of paying tribute to our wonderful local suppliers, as well as our loyal customers,” she added.
The festival featured tastings from local producers and many of the shop’s suppliers, a cookery demonstration from local home economist Teresa Bovey, a charity raffle and farm animal displays. Businesses on-hand to display their fare included coulis producer Best of Taste Company and artisan bread company Hambleton Bakery. There was also a meat-cutting demonstration and an all-day barbecue.
“The weather was really with us that weekend. It was wonderful to see such a mix of new and familiar faces. Hosting this kind of event is a great way of getting your name out into the local community. We’ll definitely be holding another festival next year,” concludes Ms Lee.
Gonalston Farm Shop Summer Food Festival was held on Saturday 26th June.
