The day commemorates the history and cultural traditions of the county, with a focus on raising awareness of the food and drink made in the region to members of the House of Commons and House of Lords.
Mr Ollerenshaw will be accompanied by representatives of food and drink companies including Thwaite’s Brewery, Fiddlers Lancashire Crisps, the Port of Lancashire Smokehouse and Fisherman’s Friend.
Lancashire cheese producer Dewlay is also working with Marketing Lancashire to promote a competition via social media. The two companies are asking members of the public and businesses to upload photos to the Visit Lancashire Facebook and Twitter pages which capture the warmth, friendliness and genuine welcome that visitors to Lancashire receive.
The winner will receive a £100 voucher to be spent in the Dewlay Visitor Centre and Shop or a hamper delivered to their home.
Tony Openshaw, marketing director of Marketing Lancashire, said, “For the second year Marketing Lancashire will be representing and promoting the interests of Lancashire’s attractions and visitor economy businesses at the House of Commons at a Lancashire Day event.
“It is a great opportunity to raise awareness of this special day and the importance of Lancashire’s visitor economy which contributes £3.37 million to the county and supports almost 56,000 jobs. Lancashire is renowned for its genuine hospitality and friendliness – Say Cheese for Lancashire Day is a good humoured campaign that we hope will engage with a wide range of people all over the UK.”
