Jonathan Cowens, HGCA’s chief executive is delighted with the level of commitment from the food industry for the campaign. He said, “Farmhouse Breakfast Week demonstrates the value of the food chain working together. It provides an excellent opportunity for the whole industry to remind consumers about the fantastic choice of breakfast foods produced around the country. From porridge, cereal and breads, to bacon and sausages, the campaign demonstrates provenance throughout the food chain, and encourages us all to start the day with breakfast!”
Around the country, farmers and farmers’ markets, producers and cafes, schools and businesses are organising over 1,500 breakfast events. Supporting organisations include Food from Britain and the Regional Food Groups, the National Farmer’s Union, the Farmer’s Union of Wales, the Ulster Farmer’s Union, the National Farmers Union of Scotland, the Women’s Food and Farming Union (WFU), the Royal Highland Education Trust and Tesco Scotland and Tesco Wales, Hendersons, British Nutrition Foundation the Welsh Assembly Government, VisitBritain and Farm Stay UK.
Speaking at today’s launch food writer, Rosemary Moon, extolled the virtues of promoting high quality regional produce from producers such as MiniMagoos, Denhay Farms, Sillfield Farm and Flour Power, who also exhibited at the event.
She said, “Farmhouse Breakfast Week encourages us all to look and see what great breakfast foods are being produced on our doorstep – and to make them a regular part of our weekly shop.”
Ian Pigott, a LEAF demonstration farmer from Hertfordshire, also spoke at the event. Ian is passionate about connecting consumers with the food they eat: He said: “Farmhouse Breakfast Week provides a great opportunity for food chain collaboration from farmer through to end consumer. This is vital for the future success of our agriculture and food industries.”
