The company is tacitly acknowledging that this vile victual has no place in its future plans, and the next logical step would be for Fortnum to make this a company-wide policy.”
Ewan Venters, CEO of Fortnum’s has described the store’s new three-storey outlet as “a momentous event in the history of Fortnum’s”, adding to a newspaper that Dubai is of great importance to the retail sector, second only to London.
The decision was made as a result of Emiratis’ strong reaction to the video, following which the product’s halal status was questioned. Amina Mohammed, director of accreditation department at Dubai Municipality said, “The question is an important one. As a principle of halal pre-slaughtering requirements, the animal should not be under any stress and discomfort. Also, the animal must not be diseased. Hence this type of product is not considered as halal, based on this rule.”
