  • STOCKTON-on-Tees Borough Council wishes to invite independent specialist food producers and retailers based in and around the Tees Valley, who wish to occupy a retail outlet in the newly redeveloped Shambles Market Hall.

The Shambles is an historic building originally designed as a food hall and is being updated and returned to food-based retail outlet with the emphasis on specialist and high quality produce.

Examples of the type of product deemed suitable for the new offer include:

Coffees and teas (for sale not consumption)
Wines and speciality beers
Cheeses and continental meats
Plants
Organic produce (food only)
Sweet shop
Patisserie, ice creams, chocolatier
Home made pies, high quality game butcher
Farm shop
Smoked fish/meats
Preserves

The above list should be used as a guide and the Council welcomes all enquiries. Sue Burgess, town centre manager, said, “This is a unique opportunity for speciality businesses to become part of a high quality, tailor-made
development at the heart of Stockton Town Centre specifically for those kinds of products, which we know are becoming increasingly popular with today’s discerning shoppers. We anticipate that the Shambles will be a ‘foodie’s paradise’ where shoppers can come and find something special. The new food hall will provide yet another excellent reason to visit Stockton.”

The new development is expected to open in the Autumn of this year.

Interested parties wishing to receive an information pack should contact Sue Burgess, town centre and markets service manager, on 01642 527569, or email sue.burgess@stockton.gov.uk before the closing date of 21st February 2008.
