Designed as ‘a new take on the domestic kitchen’, the new shop is open plan, with no counters separating staff and customers.
“There’s always the danger of entering the ‘chain store mentality’ when you expand as much as we have,” said Gerhard Jenne, owner.
“To combat this, we try to give each shop it’s own unique character. We also spend a lot of time training staff, to keep the quality of food and service consistently high,” he said.
Selling a range of cakes, biscuits and free-from treats, the bakery is hoping to tap into the city’s lucrative commuter trade.
“The shop’s central location is perfect for attracting passing trade. We’ve already got lots of regular customers,” said Mr Jenne.
The store’s kitchen is on full view, allowing diners to sit and watch their food being prepared.
“Customers love the kitchen theme. They say it’s just like being at home,” said Mr Jenne.
Future plans include opening a cooking school and a seventh smaller bakery.
